Random Thoughts

I have found something I like to do when reading a series of books. ok here's the story. I just got finished with the whole series or part (she's still writing more) of the Lady Julia Gray novels, and I have no more books to read, so I was quite desperate for something , anything I could read... So I decided to go back to the first book and read the parts I liked. At first, I was just gonna read the book again, cause I had read the other four and my mind was still on the events of those four books, but I just decided to go and read what I wanted to since i already knew what happened. And that is what I'm talking about. I read over the parts that I didn't understand because I understood them when they were answered in the other books. So I already knew what was going on, and I could get a better perspective. Which I think is a pretty good idea for when you read a series of books. Go over the parts you don't understand, and you get a better perspective, and understand the book better.

Ok sorry, that was in my head and I needed to get it out somehow... haha ANYways, the wedding was awesome and turned out well, I case you were wondering. It was amazing. One of the best weddings I've been to. (Even though I've only been to two weddings in my life...)  Also, my library books are overdue because of the wedding being on the 24 when I had to take them back. I should have got my Mom or Dad to drop them off BEFORE the wedding but I forgot.... : S So now I have to pay the fine... Which will only be like two bucks because it's only been two days.... I think.... Good thing I have money cause I went to clean with my friend and got 35 bucks. Which is more than I've had in a while. So I don't have to worry about that. But still... I hate paying a fine.  Anyways, I've had a pretty good week so far and happy about that because I was so down in the dumps last week.... which I don't even want to go into... but yeah. I think having books to read is the biggest help.... I don't know why but having them makes me sane. And I'm pretty sure everyone wants me sane cause it's a nightmare when I'm not.... So all in all, a good week. All I can hope for is that next week will be as good as this one.

Another one of those update blogs nobody cares about.

Hiya! I have a book I could do a book review on but I'm kinda lazy sooooo.... you'll have to deal with an update blog for now, and this is as close to a book review as your gonna get, so suck it up. : P
Anyways, you know that author that one of my friends suggested to me, Deanna Raybourn? And you saw the book review I did on the "The Dead Travel Fast". Well, there was another book by her that my friend suggested to me. It's called Silent in the Grave. I read it, and I loved it. A lot. So much so that I bought the whole series. Well.... I didn't buy them exactly. I got a Amazon gift card that my great aunt gave me with 30 bucks to spend, so I bought the series with it. I just got the second book in the mail today and I'm almost done with it.... I know what your thinking: "Wow Megan, you have no life!" Which is right. I don't. But it's not my fault that I almost read the book in one day..... right? ok fine. Maybe I am a little obsessed with reading. So what? Isn't it a good thing? You better be glad I'm not obsessed with drugs or alcohol. That would have really ruined my life. But I'm not, so be happy and stop complaining! : P

ANYways, I'll stop and start taking about semi-cool stuff so you don't get bored. I'm gonna talk about my personal stuff so be prepared.
I have been hired to dog sit for my neighbors so I can get some cash, and I'm pretty good with dogs so it should be easy. I don't mind dogs. They don't bother me, so I figure why not? I'm gonna visit the dogs tomorrow and see what they are like and they can tell me when they want me there to watch them.
Also my Aunt, (one of the many Aunts I have) is getting married on the 24th so we've been getting ready for that. Today we had a makeup and dress rehearsal, so we could see what kind of makeup and stuff we want. It's gonna be an awesome wedding. It's kinda this medieval/druid wedding at the Groom's parents house in their backyard. And their backyard is gorgeous and perfect for a medieval wedding. It's gonna be awesome.
Ok, ok, ok I'm gonna stop now and go read the rest of my book (or some of it) now. I hope you enjoyed my blabbing and leave you saying: You should definitely read Deanna Raybourn's stuff. She's amazing. : )

Book Review: Beauty: A retelling of the story Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast has always been my favorite Disney Movie, and when one of my friends suggested this book to me, I was really excited. But I knew it was going to different from the movie because it's a retelling and the author would make it hers. It was REALLY good. I loved it! In all the parts I didn't like in the movie she made them likable. but before I tell you more here's the cover and the description on the back of the book:
 A strange imprisonment...
Beauty has never liked her nickname. She is thin and awkward; it is her two sisters who are the beautiful ones. But what she lacks in looks, she can perhaps make up for in courage.
When her father comes home with the tale of an enchanted castle in the forest and the terrible promise he had to make to the Beast who lives there, Beauty knows she must go to the castle, a prisoner of her own free will. Her father protests that he will not let her go, but she answers, "Cannot a Beast be tamed?"
Robin McKinley's beloved telling illuminates the unusual love story of a most unlikely couple Beauty and the Beast.

Now my thoughts on this book: Again I loved it. I thought she did an excellent job on the writing and plot. It's not as dramatic as the movie makes it seem, and it's more realistic. The Beast didn't seem so bad, and there was no suitor waiting for Beauty's hand. Even though she changed some of it, she kept with the same theme, and it turned out well. All in all, it was very enjoyable and light-hearted. I liked it a lot.

Book Review: The Dead Travel Fast by Deanna Raybourn

It was sooo hard for me to pick which book to do a book review on! But I guess I'll start with this book that I just (no joke, I finished it like three minutes ago) got done reading.

Ok let start off this book review by saying: This book is AMAZING. I don't really quite know what else to say about it. Ok here's the cover, and what it says on the back of the book and I'll tell you what I thought about it:

The back of the book says this:   A husband, a family, a comfortable life: Theodora Lestrange lives in terror of it all. With a modest inheritance and the three gowns that comprise her entire wardrobe, Theodora leaves Edinburgh—and a disappointed suitor—far behind. She is bound for Rumania, where tales of vampires are still whispered, to visit an old friend and write the book that will bring her true independence.
She arrives at a magnificent, decaying castle in the Carpathians, replete with eccentric inhabitants: the ailing dowager; the troubled steward; her own fearful friend, Cosmina. But all are outstripped in dark glamour by the castle's master, Count Andrei Dragulescu.
Bewildering and bewitching in equal measure, the brooding nobleman ignites Theodora's imagination and awakens passions in her that she can neither deny nor conceal. His allure is superlative, his dominion over the superstitious town, absolute—Theodora may simply be one more person under his sway.
Before her sojourn is ended—or her novel completed—Theodora will have encountered things as strange and terrible as they are seductive. For obsession can prove fatal…and she is in danger of falling prey to more than desire.

Ok the cover is really stupid, so don't think that this book is going to be a cheesy romance novel not worth reading. After all, you know the saying: "Don't judge a book by it's cover!". As you read in the discription on the back of the book, it looks like it gonna be another vampire novel like Twilight, but it's not. Also, it's not all about vampires even though it's setting is in Transylvania.  I'm not gonna say anything more because I would be giving away too much. I don't want to spoil the book.  ; )

This books genre is kinda hard to identify... I don't know what to call it. It's definitely historical fiction, because it's takes place in Victorian times. It's also romance. It's very.... gothic. That's the best word I can think of. It has some paranormal stuff too but not much. It has some mystery in it, because you don't really know what's going on with the whole vampire and werewolf legends.... and the Count himself. You don't really understand him in general. I love that about him. He was mysterious, dark, and hard to read.  I would say the writing wasn't perfect but it was good. The plot was really good, and I liked all the characters in equal measure. I don't read much gothic novels so this one was a first. But all in all I thought it was amazing. The ending was really good I thought. I was very happy with it. It tied everything up, but I wouldn't say all my questions were answered... But I liked it a lot. I would definitely give it five star. This book is a big page turner, and I would read it it again. I would suggest this to anyone who likes gothic novels, romance, and a little mystery. This book is full of surprises. There was a lot of things I did not expect... and I liked that about this book. All in all, a very, very good read.

Update and more personal problems you don't care about.

Well, I'm always doing updates now instead of doing book reviews because of reasons I will tell you now. Well first, like I said in my other blog , that I always read book twice... well all the book reviews I want to do are on books I've already read once and need to read it a second time... so it's better if I go and read it again, and THEN do a book review. So until I work on that, your gonna have to endure this lame and probably boring, blog. So enjoy!

So now it's update time. Right now I'm reading Sense and Sensibility, thanks to my friend who gave me this book, (Thank you friend!) by Jane Austen. You know how much I like Jane Austen cause I'm always, at least, reading one of her books. (They're so light hearted!)
I'm also still listening to Pride and Prejudice,  but I haven't listened to it in a while, so I didn't get very far from when I talked about it in the last blog.

Now, away from the updates for a minute, lets talk about Goodreads . I love this site! So if you want to follow me on Goodreads you can. My name on site is Megan. and my username is Doghorse1223. Here's the link:  http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/2785963-megan  It's set to private but if I want you as a friend I'll accept. : D  Anyways, this site is really cool and if you want to join, you should. It's pretty awesome. You can put the books you've read on your "Read' shelf, and books you want to read but haven't got the chance, on the "To read" shelf. There is virtually ever book you can think of on this site. It's pretty epic.

I'm trying to think of other updates but I can't really think of any...... Hold on.......... Oh yeah!!!!! Ok,  for you people who are wondering, "What happened to Name Of The Wind?" well here the update on that: I finished it in three days, (Which is a record!!!!) and it was just as good as the first time! I love this book.....

It's been soooooo hot where I live. It's crazy! It's like 90 outside.... Good thing I live near a creek! : D
Anyways I think that ends this blog. I hope I didn't bore you too much, and when I read any book a second time, I'll do a review on it, I promise. See you guys later, and remember keep reading! :-)
